Create & Edit Website Structure

In inCMS it’s really easy to change the way your pages are structured.

In the left hand side you can see the pages structured in a tree and on the right hand side you can see the pages appearing in the navigation menu as a user would see it.

It doesn’t matter if you click on an item in the tree or if you click in the navigation on a link - both will open the appropriate page.

In the tree you can see there’s a small arrow, this means there are sub-pages.

You can rearrange the order of your pages with drag&drop very easily. So for example you can drag the contact page and move it up and place it between home and blog and the page is now in the appropriate place. You can use the same principle to create sub-pages. So for example I can move a sub-page from one main site to another. This means you can create a main page out of every page by moving it between one of the main pages, or you can create a new sub-page, by moving it onto another page.

To create a new page, you first need to select an existing page. The new page will then be added below the existing page. So for example if you click on home, the new page would be created as a sub-page of home.

If you want to create a new main page, you have to select the folder with the URL of the website. To add a new page, I simply click the add page button, and a new dialog will be shown on the right hand side. One of the first options you need to choose is the published state. So if the published state is set, then everyone will see the pag. If the published state is unchecked, it will mean that nobody will see the page and you have all the time in the world to start editing it and creating it before you make it live.

The next thing you need to choose is the page name, this will appear in the navigation of your website. The page title is what search engines will see. So that’s the place where you can add your main keyword, so it’s definitely wise to choose a good title for your page. Then you change further settings, for example the layout. You have different main layout styles, and if you choose for example the 3col, it means, it would ignore what’s set from previous pages, otherwise it would just inherit the layout style from the previous pages.

Next you can click on save and close and the page will be created and it will automatically appear in the navigation menu of your website, but also in the tree. And you will notice that the new page in the tree has this icon, which means that it is not published yet. You can click on it and you will see the new page without content. However there is content on the right hand side, because this content is global, meaning the content you add on this page will be added to every other page as well, as you can see by switching from one page to another - it’s always the same. If you wanted to change the layout options again, so that you have for example a 2col layout, you can just click on the page and click the edit-page-button, which brings you back to the same dialog you had when you created the page. And you can switch for example to a 2col layout. One thing to note when you reopen this dialog is that there are additional meta-tag fields appearing, which don’t appear when you add the page, for example the short page description is really important for SEO purposes, that you give search engines a short description of your page. You can ignore the 2nd box the keywords, there are search engines which still use this field, but most don’t so it’s up to you. Once you’ve done the changes hit save and close and you’ll see that the layout now is 2col. Finally if you want to delete a page you can click it in the tree and simply choose delete page and it will be permanently removed. If you want to remove a page with all the content that’s on it, you can use the second button named „delete page and it’s content“. This will then remove a page without checking if it still has content. Finally you can click on this button to duplicate a page with the content. So you can choose a page from your tree and click here to duplicate it and then you can rename and edit the new page.
